When I first began writing my diaries I purposely wrote in Portuguese, my native language. They were only meant for me. Writing was my daily escape. Owning the freedom of expression was to me an open invitation to put aside all preconceived ideas of what was taboo and to write only the truth. Soon I was amazed to discover that by writing a past event of muddy waters it suddenly became crystal clear.
